Intravenous EDTA chelation is very effective whereas oral EDTA chelation may be not so effective. Oral chelation has at least two disadvantages. Firstly, absorption is very limited, range from 3 – 5% only. Secondly EDTA can chelate essential minerals from diet that may lead to deficiency of certain essential minerals such as calcium, zinc, selenium, manganese, molybdenum etc.
